When we launched FencingBuddies.com, our goal was to help fencers and families get more out of every tournament — not just medals, but lessons.
We created a digital fencing journal that auto-syncs tournament results, lets fencers and coaches write bout-specific notes, and builds a clear, searchable record of growth over time — complete with feedback, AI-generated insights, and data-driven statistics to help athletes and coaches make smarter decisions.
It gave structure.
It saved insights.
It made fencing more purposeful.
The Problem: Not Every Coach Has Time — Or Offers Video Review
Fencing coaches are amazing, passionate, and stretched thin — and the truth is, not every coach has the capacity to offer video reviews on top of lessons, tournaments, and managing a club.
And some coaches don’t offer video reviews at all. Not because they don’t care, but because they don’t have the time, structure, or tools to support it.
"During tournaments, I'm bouncing between five or six students. I can't analyze every bout."
"After a 12-hour competition weekend, I don't have time to watch videos at night."
"Some families send me matches to review, but I'm already full with lessons and club responsibilities."
That's the real gap:
- Fencers want detailed feedback.
- Coaches want to give it.
- But time, availability, and burnout get in the way.
Our Solution: Build a Marketplace for Video Review
We looked to other industries for inspiration:
Uber
Didn't create new drivers. It simply gave riders access to available drivers when they needed a ride.
Instacart
Didn't invent groceries. It gave people a way to get them when they couldn't make it to the store.
What these platforms solved was access.
So we asked: What if fencers could get expert feedback on demand — even if their coach was unavailable or didn't offer video reviews?
And that's how the FencingBuddies Video Review Marketplace was born.
How It Works
It's simple — and powerful.
Why It Works
Makes Expert Feedback More Accessible
You no longer have to rely on a single coach’s schedule. Now, fencers anywhere can access real coaching feedback — from a national-level fencer, a college coach, or a seasoned epee mentor.
Respects Coaches' Time
Coaches set their own pricing and availability. They can review videos on their schedule — without being pressured or overbooked.
A Smarter Way to Learn
This isn't just a feature. It's a new way to learn.
We believe every fencer — no matter where they live, what club they attend, or how busy their coach is — deserves access to thoughtful, constructive feedback.
The Video Review Marketplace is how we make that possible.
- It's flexible
- It's scalable
- It's built for the fencing community — not just the elite few
The Marketplace Has Two Sides — And We're Building Both
Fencers & Parents
Who need accessible, personalized feedback on their bout videos
Coaches & Experienced Fencers
Who can provide that feedback, share their expertise, and earn for their time
Right now, we're focused on building the supply side — the coaching network. We're looking for dedicated fencing coaches, club instructors, college athletes, and experienced competitors who want to help young fencers improve.
As a Coach, You Can:
- Set your own rates
- Review asynchronously, on your own schedule
- Help grow the sport and support more fencers
Join Our Founding Coaching Network
If you're a coach or experienced fencer interested in joining the marketplace, please reach out.
Once we have a strong community of reviewers ready to go, we'll open the marketplace to fencers and families — and let the learning begin.
